I often work with drivers that question the value of going out in the rain. Some feel that driving in the rain isn’t valuable as they won’t set a personal best in the rain and it isn’t anything like driving in the dry.
Recently I spent two days driving hard in the rain to polish up my rain driving skills. Constantly pushing the car and feeling so much movement in every corner. The wheel was hardly ever still, my eyes were constantly searching for references and my core kinesthetic sensitivity was at the peak. It was hard work but wow did it pay off.
The first event after that I hit an oil slick at the apex of T11 at Watkins Glen. Fortunately due to my low grip practice (RAIN) and some good luck, I was able to catch it and save the car.
Please get out in the rain and learn!! Look for coming post on how to approach driving in the rain with some step by step thoughts to help learn while staying safe.
